Joy Summer

Co-Director of FACET (the Franco-Australian Indo-Pacific Centre for Energy Transition) and a professor in the School of Engineering (assessing high temperature alloy degradation in energy systems).

Joy has a long standing interest in minimising barriers to the energy transition. She graduated with her PhD from the University of Cambridge in 2008, and also holds an MA/MSc in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge (2004).  As part of her undergraduate, she attended an exchange program with Massachusetts Institute of Technology (2002/2003). She has carried out research at the University of Bath and Cranfield University.  At Cranfield, she held various positions, from Academic Fellow to Head of Centre.  In 2025, she moved to Swinburne University of Technology.  Joy is a Fellow of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (UK), holding CEng and CSci status, and a member of Engineers Australia.
