Richard Neumann joined the Smart Energy Council in 2025 as Senior Adviser and Chair, Pacific Working Group.
He contributed to the 100% renewable energy for the Blue Pacific discussion paper that was launched during the Pacific Islands Forum in September 2025.
He previously worked at the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade for 30 years, including serving overseas in Beijing, Seoul and Taipei, as well as for the Ambassador for Climate Change where he led on climate change mitigation and investment for five years.
He speaks Korean and Mandarin and is a qualified accountant.
He is passionate about empowering individuals, communities and countries to benefit from the energy transition.
